Data Analyst (Junior) 

Role Summary

The Data Analyst is responsible for executing operational activities in support of maintaining and updating GDM Pipelines’ (GDM) energy infrastructure content and products.  The ideal candidate will be comfortable working in a collaborative team environment by inputting new information, continuously verifying the validity of the corporate databases and reconciling discrepancies. The ability to continuously learn and adapt to new and changing technologies and procedures are critical personal characteristics needed to succeed in this position.

This is an ideal role for an individual early in their career looking to develop their data science competencies with a focus on data wrangling, process automation and integration in a fast-paced collaborative team environment.



  • Perform operational activities to create and update energy infrastructure geospatial and related attribute information.

  • Perform visual and logical quality control checks on energy infrastructure using quality assurance/quality control procedures and tools.

  • Participate in team stand-up and sprint planning meetings to ensure schedules work in harmony and raise scheduling conflicts which may impede the team from meetings its commitments.

  • Provide ongoing feedback into the effectiveness of operational procedures and standards.

  • Instill and maintain a collaborative relationship with the Operations team in the execution of continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Assist in the distribution and support of GDM content to distributor and customers as required.



  • Demonstrated experience with the use of ESRI (ArcGIS) mapping technologies to accurately represent assets.

  • Understand coordinate reference systems and their impact to asset positional accuracy.

  • Knowledgeable with Safe FME ETL technologies to automate procedures.

  • Knowledgeable with Microsoft SQL for data queries, inputs and deletions.

  • Track commitments and report progress on targeted delivery dates.

  • Comfortable engaging in a collaborative and continuous improvement team environment.

  • Comfortable working in an Agile Dev/Ops environment.


  • Degree from a recognized institution in Computer Science, GIS, Data Science, or any other related field.

  • Previous experience in oil and gas technical data management is considered an asset.

  • Strong computer skills, with particular focus on ESRI ArcGIS, SAFE FME, SQL Server Management Studio, Python and general understanding of data analytics.

  • Demonstrated teamwork and influence skills in producing results.

  • Demonstrated organizational and problem solving skill.
